Public Name Tag Removal

Note: Moonriver (MOVR) on Kusama is a companion network to Moonbeam and provides a permanently incentivized canary network. New code ships to Moonriver first, where it can be tested and verified under real economic conditions. Once proven, the same code ships to Moonbeam on Polkadot.

Polygon PoS (polygonscan.com) is an EVM-compatible environment optimized for high throughput and low transaction fees while Polygon zkEVM (zkevm.polygonscan.com) is an EVM-equivalent ZK rollup designed for security.

To make transactions easier to read and funds easier to track, we label and tag addresses on BaseScan. This better informs our users of an address's owner or the project it is associated with and its specific function or role in the project. For example, by tagging the address 0x71C7656EC7ab88b098defB751B7401B5f6d8976F as BaseScan: Donate, users can easily tell that the address belongs to BaseScan and is used as the address with which we welcome donation from our users.

Although we only tag an address that is publicly known or shared by its owner, the address’s owner may submit a request to have the tag or labels removed. We do require verifiable proof that the request is indeed from the address's owner before removing a tag:

  1. For EOAs, please sign a message following the template below using the tagged address itself:

[basescan.org dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss] I, the owner of the address [the tagged address], hereby request that the Public Name Tag assigned to it and other information therein be removed from BaseScan].

  1. For contract addresses, please sign a message following the template below using the address that created the contract address:

[basescan.org dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss] I, the creator of the contract address [the tagged contract address], hereby request that the Public Name Tag assigned to it and other information therein be removed from BaseScan].

Once you have signed the message, please submit the signed message details through our Contact Us page. Make sure to have Option #9: Request Removal of Name Tag selected, and fill in the required details (your name, email address and wallet address).

In the Message field, paste the signed message details. The signed message details should look like this (if you used MyEtherWallet to sign):

{   "address": "0x9a2ed96722d01c1e626fbaaf48a6257454c24499",
    "msg": "[basescan.org dd/mm/yyyy hh:mm:ss] I, the owner of the address [0x9a2ed96722d01c1e626fbaaf48a6257454c24499], hereby request that the Public Name Tag assigned to it and other information therein be removed from BaseScan].",
    "sig": "0x4bedd3f0e916e34999c81c010273af63d99547e9ef3317aa28e30529ad8e6937042c4049dcd0186906a741c8a38e1f027313339333dcd244509c5ea58227bd031b",
    "version": "3",
    "signer": "MEW" }

After you have submitted the request, one of our team members will attend to your request and process the removal as soon as possible. However, do note that while we try our best to respond in a timely manner, we often have a backlog of inquiries. Please bear with us while waiting.

Balancing the Public and Private interest

While most, if not all, public name tags can be added/removed upon request if certain criteria are met, at BaseScan, we strive to find a balance between public and private interests. This means that we may choose not to remove a name tag if it conflicts with the public interest. Here is a non-exhaustive list of criteria that are considered in evaluating the public interest associated with a name tag:

  1. Automatically indexed from factory contract (e.g. Pancakeswap LP token and Multisig)
  2. Anonymous onchain activities (Validator, MEV)
  3. Phishing/exploit name tag
  4. Project name tag (e.g. Deployer tag)
